The 4th of July

  • Jul. 7th, 2008 at 7:44 AM

So my first 4th of July away from Michigan was great! Even though I missed seeing the fireworks being shot off over the riverwalk at Bay City with about a thousand boats in the water, traffic jams until 2:00 in the morning that began at about 5 or 6pm, and hundreds of thousands of people flooding the streets to see them...I rather enjoyed my night in Omaha, NE in the comfort of the home I've been staying at with friends. Since we live just outside the city limits we can shoot off fireworks legally...this alone was amazing to me. Tim bought more than enough fireworks to give a show of his own and along with that the entire nieghborhood seemed to love this little tradition. We went over to another friend of their's (the pastor's house) which is in more of the middle of the nieghborhood I'm living in and there were the fireworks that we set off, there were fireworks also going on to the left, right, front and back as well...it was pretty amazing...I'm not gonna lie! :) Everything in life has been really good...I'm actually going to get my hair done in about an hour and I'm getting it dyed...it will be good...I haven't had my hair professionally highlighted since high school when my mom was paying for it...so working definitely has its perks! Other updates: My brother and his wife are officially moving back to Michigan...it just kind of stinks that they move just a couple months after I left. But I am really happy that they will be closer to friends & family...I know that was really hard on them. That's about all the news I have for now...and I have to get ready to leave for my hair appointment. I'll try to post more frequently...

Getting Into the Swing of Things

  • Jun. 11th, 2008 at 1:10 PM

So, now that I have been in Omaha for a month now, I am starting to get more comfortable with my surroundings. I've made a few friends, got a future roommate, a car, a license, a phone, a bank account...haha! I definitely made the switch over! But this whole move still feels very surreal...like it's not really happening, or it's just a long vacation or something. I wonder when it will hit me that this real and not just a vacation. Some good news though, I get my first primary at work today! Which means that I get assigned to a girl on the cottage and take her out on short one-on-one outings! It will be great and I'm really excited about it!! So much has happened this past month that it feels like I've been in Omaha a lot longer than I actually have...it's so weird! But with the way things have been going I definitely know that my first big move has gone so smoothly that it has be ordained by God! haha! :D I can't wait to see what else is in store for me here in Omaha!

Here she is! Rafiki in all it's glory!!

I'm Officially a Nebraska Girl!!

  • Jun. 6th, 2008 at 2:33 PM

Ok, so more blessings that I need to report! After purchasing my car, which by the way is now named Rafiki after the old Mandrill in the Lion King, Kelly saved me about 750 dollars by fixing my car! And, when I went to go get insurance there was a sale with AAA Nebraska which was even better than my discount with my work and I got full coverage for the same amount I was paying for crappy PLPD in Michigan!! And went to the DMV today to get my new Nebraska driver's license, plates, tabs, and title for my car it cost about half of what I expected to have to pay because my current address is currently out of their city limits and it decreased the percentage of taxes. God has blessed me in so many ways recently!! I cannot believe it! I cannot believe that I got my license the same day I went in too...because you all know that in Michigan it takes them a bit to send you it in the mail...but I got everything today! It's a little exciting and a bit wierd...everything that defined my connection with Michigan is gone...except for my first driver's license that is in my scrapbook, and my old plates...but it's still wierd! Everything is coming together though, and I could not be happier because it just confirms that I am exactly where I need to be!

P.S.: I really want a puppy...and I am seriously contemplating getting one! :) I'm not sure when...or exactly what kind...but I want one!

Ok, so I knew before I moved here that tornados were prevalant here in middle America, however there have been quite a few major storms since I moved here. And I get the feeling that these storms are not anything to what they are used to get getting. :/ Last night the storm hit Kearney pretty badly and it did not really affect us, thank God. But I'm a little nervous to see what else is possible and there are more storms coming tonight. The car situation is coming along quite slowly and I'm starting to a get a little frustrated. But I know that it will all work for the best. I have, however, came to conclusion that policy's were not written with people who have just moved to their state in mind...AT ALL! I can tell you that starting out is not easy, and there is a ton of stuff that you need to do that you just do not think about when you initally move. It's kind of a long process and there are so many rules that you figure out are so much different than the rules you grew up with your entire life. I couldn't be more blessed with individual's helping me left and right and it is still quite the ordeal. But I guess I should have expected this to happen, I guess I did not think about the extent of it though, especially since it is my first time doing anything like this! haha! So today I am continuing my grand car search and seeing what is available every day...checking new postings, until I find the right car! Continue to wish me luck! :)

Breaking My Natural Alarm Clock

  • May. 27th, 2008 at 11:22 AM

So ever since I moved my body did not want to adjust to my new schedule or the time change. But today there was a breakthrough...for the first time (since I've been in NE) I slept in past 10:00!!!! Even more important....I slept straight through. I have been waking up around 5 or 6 every morning and each time I had to try to fall back to sleep. But for over a year now I woke up a little before 7 every morning in eastern time...which is about a little before 6 here. My stubborn little alarm clock did not want to give up that schedule!! Not to my surprise, working three 2 pm - 12:30 am shifts in a row broke it for at least one day!! :D Oh, and today we are car shopping...serious car shopping...especially since I am already approved for a loan! Wish me luck!!

Nebraska!? What's in Nebraska?

  • May. 26th, 2008 at 10:38 AM

For those of you that have not already heard, I moved to Omaha, NE a week after graduation. It seemed crazy to me too! The story is kind of funny when you look back at it...I mean really...who moves to Omaha without a car and a place to stay...and I'm going to have to say, 'That would be me.'

I had this grand plan ever since I was a junior in high school to go to college recieve my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and then go on to get my master's and/or my Ph.D in Clinical Psychology or Counseling. It was going great, I had applied to four schools in the past fall and was waiting to hear where I was going in the spring. Even after a man prayed for me at my old church and said that my focus was off...and all I could think about at the time was Graduate school, but II thought for sure that God wanted me to go...when in reality I found that God had a different plan than mine all along. When I did not get accepted into any of my choices, I kind of freaked out, haha! I decided a job in my field would be the next best choice and would help me get experience and build up my resume. Also, not knowing now where I should be while at the same time knowing I should not be in Michigan anymore, I could not decide where I should apply for jobs. So I prayed about it, and sent out numerous applications to about 15 states. I seriously applied everywhere from California to Vermont. The job that I have now happened kind of quickly. I applied on a Friday and got a call on Monday for an interview on Tuesday over the phone. After that interview I knew God was trying to tell me something because it went really well...like it lasted 45 min, the woman is a Christian and a twin (like me), and said "Everything happens for a reason, like maybe you are supposed to be here instead."  So about a week and a half later I get a phone call to set up my second phone interview which happens about a week later and goes well too. Later that week I accept the job and about 2 weeks later I started orientation and training. Now...the interesting part is I got in an accident about 2 months before I got the job and was trying to get my car fixed in order to leave. But the repair shop within that time just took my car apart, ordered parts and added over a $1000 to my estimation. That was when I said to myself even if I had the money to pay for it, it wouldn't be done in time and sold my nearly totaled car to the shop. So, still no place to stay and no car, I was moving to Nebraska because I knew God wanted me to. Susan and I  decided to pack up her 2 door Alero with most of my belongings and drive to NE through the night. Meanwhile, I was searching like crazy for apartments and places to stay. My other sister suggested I call a local church and see if they could set me up with a place to stay. After researching a couple of churches, I called 2 and only 1 gave me an option. They set me up with a couple who called me a couple of hours before my sister came to pack up the car. Through these people I have been able to get more information about finding the right car for the right amount, where the safe places to live are, and have been able to be a part of a church. They have been great at making me feel at home and made the transition of moving to a new state and starting a whole new life a lot easier! Not to forget the godson that lives with them has also been welcoming and helping me get aqaninted with other people my age. So, given all of the confirmations I know God has me right where He wants me and I cannot wait to see what else He has in store for me in Omaha!!

This is a Picture  of me and the couple that took me in!

This is me and the lovable Sasha! She follows me everywhere!
